From the Beginning...

AA native of Virginia, Gary grew up in Newport News, went to high school in Alexandria and then attended The College of William & Mary in Williamsburg.

At W&M, he studied law until he lost his mind and discovered his passion. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre & Speech and served as the President of the Theatre Students' Association. Gary was honored with the Prentice Hill Award his senior year.
With a liberal arts degree, summer stock, an outdoor drama and a Shakespeare festival under his artistic belt, Gary headed to West Virginia. He studied in the Professional Training Program at West Virginia University, earning his Masters of Fine Arts in Acting. He performed for six months with the Barter Theatre in Abingdon, Virginia, then came to New York.

Gary arrived in Manhattan on a snowy eve ready to begin a season with the Off-Broadway company Circle Repertory Theatre. There, Gary had the privilege to work with Marshall Mason, Lanford Wilson, John Malkovich and Joan Allen on the New York premiere of Burn This, in which he understudied the role of Larry (played by Lou Liberatore). While at Circle Rep, Gary also worked on the first revival of As Is and the premieres of Murray Schisgal's Road Show (with Jonathan Hadary and Anita Gillette) and John Bishop's Musical Comedy Murders of 1940 (before its Broadway transfer).

Other Off-Broadway credits include Billy Budd at the Westbeth and its move to Circle-in-the-Square; Ceremony of Innocence and Downtown at the Samuel Beckett Theatre; and world premieres of The Kiss with the Lincoln Center Director's Lab, The Magic Sparrow at Ubu Rep, Lost Language of Twins and Birnham Wood at Soho Rep, The Tranny Chase at P.S. 122, To Kill a Mockingbird with Brave New World Rep, Wingman & The Misanthrope at 28th St Theatre, Daddy Kathryn at the NYC Fringe Festival (directed by Tony winner Peter Masterson); along with several plays with the Phoenix Ensemble and The Basic Theatre (company member). Gary performed the world premiere of Gregory Fletcher’s Edenville at Emerging Artists Theatre (company member)and The Older Gentleman with Drama League/Vital Theatre.

In 2004, Gary played the business manager Mason "Mars" Marzac in the LORT premiere of Richard Greenberg's Tony Award-winning play Take Me Out. That production at the Caldwell Theatre in Boca Raton was nominated for seven Carbonell Awards, which honor South Florida theatre, including Gary's nomination as Best Supporting Actor in a Play.  He was named Best Actor by The New Times of Broward & Palm Beach.

Audiences across the country have seen Gary's work in regional theatres in Florida, New York, New Jersey, Wisconsin, Virginia and Rhode Island (at the 1st  & 2nd Provincetown Tennessee Williams Festival), in addition to the national tour of Charlotte's Web (20 states, 101 hotels in 6 months).

On television, Gary was cast in a recurring role of Nurse Bruce Tuthill on The Sopranos.  He completed the Law & Order hat trick, having appeared on all three shows of the franchise. He played a guidance councilor and a Madison Avenue shoe-selling stoolie on Law & Order; an overburdened caseworker and an archivist on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit; and a hit-and-run driver on Law & Order: Criminal Intent. He's appears in the pilot episode of 30 Rock and also worked on Knights of Prosperity (ABC), Spin City, Nick & Nora, Tattingers and several daytime dramas (As the World Turns, One Life to Live and Guiding Light, where he played a mental patient who called himself "Ulysses S. In the TV spots, he appeared in focus groups, in a hotel room with pigeons, a spy van and then finally was seen flying through the air in a wind tunnel. This national campaign led to exposure in the New York Times and Adweek.  Other commercials include: New York Lotto Mega Millions and Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore.
